K9 Mingle Dog Training

What is K9 Mingle?

Helping Veterans find ways to integrate with the community is paramount to the success of our Dogs2Vets program. Giving back comes naturally to those who serve in the military and our K9 Mingle Club is a perfect opportunity for our Dogs2Vets program participants and graduates to do that. Simultaneously, our K9 Mingle Club invites the community to our campus and brings together the military and non-military communities. The common goal is simple: training your dog and having fun doing it. K9 Mingle Program is a 60-day membership for $150.  The fee includes two choices from each of our categories listed below.  It also offers access to off leash play areas and trails. Classes and activities are taught by professional trainers and assisted by our Dogs2Vets program participants and graduates. Veterans receive foundation classes free of charge for one dog. Additional memberships for veterans are discounted to $75 for a 60-day membership. Our training model has been developed by our team of trainers that collectively have more than 20 years of experience in animal behavior and are committed to bringing the most effective techniques to our members. Veterans assisting the program have at least one year of intensive training themselves and refine their skills while at the same time are giving back to the same program that helped them.

Problem Solving

Basic One – In this class, you and your dog will learn basic manners on leash such as sit, down, loose leash walking, etc.  These behaviors will be taught with minimal distraction and duration.

Basic Two – This class is an extension of Basic One with additional behavior cues taught.  We will work on adding small amounts of distraction and distance.

Intermediate – This is an on-leash class where we practice all of the behavior cues taught in Basic 1 &2. We work on distances of up to 12’ and one minute duration sits and downs.  There will be added distraction (such as a person in a wheelchair moving around) during loose leash walking and problem solving on which tool(s) to use for certain scenarios.

Advanced – This class is completely off leash.  Your dog must be dog friendly to be in this class.  We will work on your dog heeling by your side while walking through many distracting obstacles.  Recalls will become solid with increased distance.  Most important, we will introduce and emergency stop for safety when your dog is off leash.

Agility For Fun – Our Agility-For-Fun class offers many obstacles such as tunnels, jumps and weave poles.  This class is not taught for competition but rather a fun way to keep your dog mentally and physically stimulated.

Intro to Nosework – Do you have a dog whose nose is constantly on the ground? Our Intro to Nosework class entertains you and your dog by teaching them to find items through scent.  This is a basic introduction to scent work.  We use food scent in the class to help your dog find treats.  This sets the foundation if you’re interested in moving on to the specific scents (Birch, Anise & Clove).

Tricks – In this four week class, you get to choose which trick(s) you would like to teach your dog.  The trainer works with you to achieve the goal.  Some tricks may be more challenging to teach than others and may taking several steps to shape the end behavior.  This is a fun class for you and your dog.

Canine Good Citizen (CGC) -   The Canine Good Citizen class was designed by the AKC to reward dogs that exhibit good manners in the home and community.  There is a ten step exam at the end of the class.  It is suggested to take our Basic 1 and 2 class before signing up for CGC.

Canine Freestyle - Our Canine Freestyle dance class consists of a combination of obedience training and tricks choreographed into dance moves with music.  This is a great class for mentally stimulating your dog, strengthening the bond between the two of you and of course…..to have lots fun.

Modules – Our modules run an hour and a half in length hones in on a specific topic.  For example our loose lead, focus and crate training modules are intended to strengthen the behavior.  We choose topics that are most difficult for owners so that we can focus on just the one behavior and strengthen it.

Workshops – The workshops hosted at Clear Path aim to educate members on topics relating to your dog’s health and training.  We will get different speakers in to have an hour to two hour discussion on topics such a Pet First Aid, Holistic Healing, Behavioral problem solving, etc.  Workshops may be seasonal depending on the availability of our speakers.
